A future Captain America return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t appear to be in the cards for Chris Evans. The actor even joked with Scarlett Johansson through a Variety“Actors on Celebrities” interview that his personality is”an old man now” following the events of Avengers: Endgame. “Everything clicks once I get up, recovery isn’t the same,” he joked. However, when pressed by his longtime movie costar, he had been forced to consider a serious response.

“You never say never,” he started. “I adored the character… It’s not a difficult no, but it is not an excited yes either.”

It had been 2014, just before the launch of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when Evans was expressing a little bit of superhero exhaustion. He had a commitment playing with super soldier Steve Rogers in all the planned movies, leaving less and less time for him to concentrate on other projects. Discussing with Johansson, \justification was provided by him because of his hesitation.

“There’s other things I’m working on right now,” he explained. “I think Cap had such a catchy arc to stick the landing, and I believe they did a really wonderful job letting him complete his trip. It can’t be a cash grab if you are going to reevaluate it. Because crowds will be excited, it can not be. What are we showing? What exactly are we adding to the narrative?”

Evans now celebrities in Knives Out, the whodunnit puzzle from Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. He is also filming a crime play for Apple TV+ with Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery. And he directed a movie once upon a time, 2014’s Before We Move . He wishes to do that.

In any circumstance, Evans warrants a long rest/early Marvel retirement if he so chooses. Let Cap just be happy with Peggy.
